Cervantes Summer Book Club 2026CHICAGO – To prevent the “summer slide,” State Senator Javier Loera Cervantes is launching a Summer Reading Club for young residents of the 1st State Senate District.

“When students read over the summer, it enhances their learning ability, helping them continue their academic progress into the following school year,” said Cervantes (D-Chicago). “Reading builds healthy learning habits, setting children up for a successful future.”

The summer book club requires students to read eight books, record the books’ names on a form and return the form to Cervantes’ district office by Jul. 31.

“Books are a great way to develop students’ imagination and strengthen their literacy skills,” said Cervantes. “My Summer Book Club gives students an opportunity to continue reading, letting them challenge themselves while celebrating the previous school year’s accomplishments.”

To fill out the form virtually, visit SenatorCervantes.com/BookClub. Parents can call Cervantes’ office at 773-869-9050 to request a copy of the form through the mail.

Cervantes’ office is also available to answer any additional questions from residents.
